New York City is my absolute favorite destination, and after visiting more than 20 times, I often get asked two things: how to enjoy the city on a budget and which top attractions are essential to visit. Planning a trip to NYC can be overwhelming with so much to see and do, but if you’re like me, you want to make the most of your time without overspending. Luckily, there are options like the GO City Pass and New York CityPASS that help you save while visiting the city’s best sights. Here’s a breakdown to help you decide which pass suits your travel style.

GO City Pass Overview

How the GO City Pass works:

  1. Choose Your Pass Type:
    • Explorer Pass: Pick a number of attractions to visit and enjoy a 60-day window from your first visit to explore at your own pace.
    • All-Inclusive Pass: Choose a number of days to visit as many attractions as you want during that period.
  2. Set Up the Go City App:
Download the app and link your pass by entering your confirmation number (the pass is activated upon first use). The app gives you easy access to attraction listings, hours, and alerts for reservations if required. Most attractions don’t need a booking, so simply scan your QR code and go!

New York CityPASS Overview

How the New York City Pass works:

  1. Pick Your Pass:
    • C3 Pass: Choose 3 attractions from a list of iconic NYC sites like the Empire State Building, American Museum of Natural History, Statue of Liberty, and more.
    • C-All Pass: This option includes all the attractions listed above for a comprehensive NYC experience.
    • City Pass: Includes the Empire State Building and the American Museum of Natural History, plus your choice of 3 additional attractions from the same list.
  2. Download the CityPASS App:
Link your pass to the app for all the attraction details you need. Most attractions require advance reservations, so be sure to book early to secure your preferred time. The pass is valid for 9 consecutive days starting from your first use.

Which Pass is Right for You?

Personally, I prefer the GO City Pass as it offers a wider range of attractions, giving you more flexibility and allowing you to tailor your trip. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a bit more variety and a mix of attractions. However, if you’re after a more relaxed pace and are happy with the most iconic sites, CityPASS might be your best bet.

Common Questions

Is a New York City pass worth it?
Yes, a pass can be worth it if you plan to visit multiple attractions. It can save you up to 40-50% on admission prices, making it a great option for first-time visitors who want to see top sites without wasting time.

How much is a New York City pass? Where to buy one?
You can find the best prices for GO City here and for CityPASS here.

Does the New York City pass include transportation?
No, neither pass includes transportation. You’ll need to arrange and pay separately for subway or bus rides, though they do help save on entrance fees to attractions.

Which pass is better: New York Pass or CityPASS?
The New York Pass is ideal if you want to experience a fast-paced trip with as many attractions as possible. CityPASS is great for a more relaxed visit, focusing on iconic NYC sights while offering good savings.

Do I still have to wait in line if I pre-book my attractions?
Yes, even with pre-booked tickets, you may still need to wait in lines, especially for security checks. During busy times, like summer or holidays, you might experience delays even with a pass.

I hope this guide helps you decide which NYC pass works best for your visit! Remember, there are also plenty of free attractions in the city, like strolling across the Brooklyn Bridge or enjoying Central Park, so you can enjoy the city without spending a dime.
