After my stay at Rimba, another jewel of the AYANA Resort family, I couldn’t resist exploring Segara, one of the resort’s newest additions. Nestled within the sprawling grounds of AYANA, Segara immediately stands out with its contemporary design, spacious rooms, and unbeatable views of the Indian Ocean and Jimbaran Bay.
First Impressions
Check-in was effortless, setting the tone for a relaxed stay. Within minutes, I was escorted to my room, where the resort’s thoughtful touches and calming atmosphere made me feel right at home. Like the other hotels within the AYANA complex, Segara guests have full access to the resort’s extensive amenities—from multiple pools and restaurants to a private beach, wellness centers, and family-friendly spaces.
Ocean View Room
There’s something magical about waking up to an uninterrupted ocean view. My room featured a large balcony, perfect for enjoying the sea breeze. Inside, a plush king bed, stylish wooden details, and a marble bathroom with both a bath and rain shower added a sense of indulgence. A spacious wardrobe, minibar, and lounge area made the room as practical as it was beautiful. It felt like the kind of space where you could easily spend an entire day unwinding.
Poolside Relaxation
Segara is home to AYANA’s only indoor-outdoor pool, which quickly became one of my favorite spots. Whether lounging under the sun in a cabana, swimming a few laps, or ordering light bites from the nearby Karang restaurant, it offered the perfect mix of leisure and luxury. The views over the resort’s lush grounds and the ocean beyond were a constant reminder that this was no ordinary getaway.
Rooftop Moments at Luna
Not long after settling in, I made my way to Luna Rooftop Bar. With sweeping sunset views and a relaxed yet stylish atmosphere, it’s an ideal place to sip a cocktail and take in the evening sky. The laid-back setting makes it equally suited for a quiet afternoon drink or a lively evening with friends.
Dining at Scusa
One highlight of my stay was dinner at Scusa, the resort’s Mediterranean-inspired restaurant. The terrace setting provided a breezy, romantic vibe, enhanced by live music drifting through the evening air. Our meal began with delicate beef carpaccio, followed by a fresh lobster salad, and finished with a perfectly prepared surf and turf. Each dish was rich in flavor yet balanced, making the experience both comforting and memorable.
Breakfast at Karang
Mornings at Segara started at Karang, where breakfast was anything but ordinary. Guests can choose from international classics like eggs and pastries or dive into Asian specialties. I tried everything from Balinese fried rice to sushi and dumplings—each dish well-prepared and full of flavor. The restaurant’s modern Balinese design added a touch of authenticity to the experience.
Discovering the AYANA Spa
One of the most unique parts of my stay was experiencing thalassotherapy at the AYANA Spa. This seawater-based therapy was unlike anything I’d tried before—each section of the treatment maze focused on different healing techniques, from hydro-massages to mineral-rich baths. I left feeling refreshed, with skin that felt rejuvenated and a sense of calm that stayed with me the rest of the day. Beyond thalassotherapy, the spa offers an extensive menu of treatments, from Balinese rituals to modern wellness therapies, making it a true sanctuary of relaxation.
Italian Flavors at Sami Sami
After the spa, lunch at Sami Sami was a delight. With breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean, this Italian restaurant delivered fresh flavors and hearty portions. A crisp salad, wood-fired pizza, and a lemon cake from the resort’s organic farm made for a memorable meal. The setting, perched above the waves, added an extra layer of charm.
Sunset at the Rock Bar
No stay at AYANA would be complete without visiting the famous Rock Bar, perched dramatically above the ocean. Guests of the resort enjoy priority access, which meant I secured one of the best seats right by the sea. Though the weather cut the evening short with a sudden storm, sipping a cocktail while watching the sky light up with thunder was unforgettable. I’ll definitely return to fully enjoy the sunset there in the future.
Final Thoughts
Staying at Segara offered the best of both worlds—modern luxury paired with access to the expansive facilities of AYANA Resort. Though my time was limited to five days, I still managed to enjoy many of the highlights: pools, world-class dining, and rejuvenating spa experiences. For anyone looking for a mix of relaxation, indulgence, and unique Balinese hospitality, Segara at AYANA Resort is an experience worth savoring.
